The online behavior of a small but growing number of computer users in the United States is monitored by their Internet service providers, who have access to every click and keystroke that comes down the line. The companies harvest the stream of data for clues to a person’s interests, making money from advertisers who use the information to target their online pitches.

SA’s billion-rand music industry on an even keel

Despite rising input costs, the prices of CDs and DVDs continued dropping last year. Clearly, this is a case of those in the supply chain having to slash profit margins on an item in order to remain competitive and enable the industry to cling to survival by the skin of its teeth, as games and other forms of entertainment attract buying power away from music.

Prior to the introduction of Net Effect, data cleansing and matching were batch-based, requiring an extensive processing time before results were made available to the end-user. Server Delivery Rate

Tag: Informationeditor @ 8:40 am

An ISP can still be slow serving web pages, e-mail, or other data even if an ISP has plenty of bandwidth because its load and latency affects the delivery rate. The reason is that each ISP service is handled by a separate program called a daemon and these individual daemons can get overloaded. Each daemon can only handle so many requests per second regardless of bandwidth. Basically in addition to the ISP’s global load, there’s also individual service load. The number of requests an ISP service can handle per second is based primarily on its server software.

Pop Ups

Tag: Informationeditor @ 9:55 am

Pop up protection software is integrated to the IP’s software to keep you safe from unwanted and intrusive advertisement as you surf the net. This is valuable because not only that you could stay away from virus that may be hiding behind these pop-ups, but also it saves you time and irritation. If your ISP service doesn’t offer pop up control software, you can install it for free at Google. Download the Google Tool Bar and install it on you IE browser: this will control pop ups and enable you to search using Google or use an online dictionary.

Speed is not Everything

Tag: InformationYalung Brian @ 10:14 pm

When you talk about fast connections, think again. Speed will always be there but to religiously monitor it is another. This stems from the fact that time will come that speed is a thing of the past. Other factors such as add-on services and storage will come into play and normally they will not be included nor given focus at first.

If you want a complete and fool-proof package, you have to do some reading. It does not come naturally. If you don’t ask for it, they will not call your attention to it. Remember, all they need is your subscription. Once you sign, it is all over.

Don’t Fall For the FREE Trial Trap

Tag: InformationYalung Brian @ 10:14 pm

Promotional and misleading schemes are the common things you can expect from new ISP providers today. They will offer your free trials but you will have to give something in return. Normally this would be safety deposits or even credit card information that they will keep after the trial period is over.

Now the real cheat comes in when if you fail to reply or even inform them of your intent to discontinue, they will assume you are satisfied and start charging you. Whether it is for a full amount or not, you can be sure that they will not lose anything as far as their marketing strategy for their services is concerned.
