ISP SpeedsThere is a much debated fact that ISP’s are not really publishing the true figures as to their real connection speeds and other details of their internet service. mainly for security reasons, it does have a profound effect on the overall performance of your desktop and its relationship to the rest of the internet when it comes to network intensive tasks such as gaming and other functions such as business related mashup apps. Mashables are applications that obtains information from all over the place, from a company database, your email account and more and with such a network intensive application, shortcomings of the network or rather the ISP makes itself more apparent.
The UK and US have all been battling for a standardized approach to the problem which may have bearing on the overall performance of the internet as a whole. Though the local networks may be pristine, the inter-connects or bridges that connects the various networks together to make up the internet may be more prone to failure than previously thought. Many incidents of failure have resulted in much publicized inconvenience of the millions of users who are cut off from the rest of the world, their internet connection severed for a mere hours. The restoration of such outages may take as little as a few hours as new links are established or even days if the damage happens on a major pipeline or inter-country link. Dug-up by road crews or construction crews they can get damaged for all the wrong reasons, some natural as with storms and some through ill works of men. That is why such inter-country network cables are confidential and out of sight, to safeguard their integrity from those who may deliberately want to do harm to the internet and the may other commercial interests that rests on the few wires (more likely fiber optic cables) that costs millions of dollars.
