Don’t Fall For the FREE Trial Trap

Tag: InformationYalung Brian @ 10:14 pm

Promotional and misleading schemes are the common things you can expect from new ISP providers today. They will offer your free trials but you will have to give something in return. Normally this would be safety deposits or even credit card information that they will keep after the trial period is over.

Now the real cheat comes in when if you fail to reply or even inform them of your intent to discontinue, they will assume you are satisfied and start charging you. Whether it is for a full amount or not, you can be sure that they will not lose anything as far as their marketing strategy for their services is concerned.

Speed is not Everything

Tag: InformationYalung Brian @ 10:14 pm

When you talk about fast connections, think again. Speed will always be there but to religiously monitor it is another. This stems from the fact that time will come that speed is a thing of the past. Other factors such as add-on services and storage will come into play and normally they will not be included nor given focus at first.

If you want a complete and fool-proof package, you have to do some reading. It does not come naturally. If you don’t ask for it, they will not call your attention to it. Remember, all they need is your subscription. Once you sign, it is all over.

Loyal Patrons Will Be Rewarded

Tag: InformationYalung Brian @ 10:14 pm

If you are a customer or subscriber for so long, you are sure to have benefits once an ISP provider gets its feet off the ground. For one, you will note that packages that suit all needs are being offered here and there. While the prices cannot be adjusted or lowered, your ISP can allocate you with better bandwidth in exchange for your continuous endorsement of their service.

To some this matter of speed may not matter. But once you experience it, you will surely want more. If not, you cannot downgrade since doing so will incur penalties. So when they offer you this option, consider beyond the fact of being given importance.

Stick with the Established Providers

Tag: InformationYalung Brian @ 10:13 pm

One thing that will differ most ISP’s is the matter of time and how long they have been established in the industry. Being there for some time speaks a lot and will surely mean that they are reliable and a best preference of providing the best Internet service today.

There are people who will take risks. Cheaper rates are sure to be the main basis for their choice. While this is indeed something tempting, you just have to think long-term. If you don’t, you will regret that decision perhaps in a couple of month’s time along with charges that could have been avoided.

XUL

Tag: Informationeditor @ 12:23 pm

XUL is a user interface language. It is ISP technology developed by Mozilla Firefox and this is used for making front-ends to Web applications and browser plug-ins. It’s not an ISP service and can be used with any ISP provider so long as they allow direct access to Web files. XUL files can be downloaded just like XHTML or CSS files and they can be compatible with both XHTML and CSS files. They define graphical interfaces that go beyond the capabilities of raw XHTML and CSS. The end result of this is that Web sites with XUL can give much better user experiences than sites without XUL, but since XUL is new it won’t work with every browser.

The IP Address

Tag: Informationeditor @ 8:33 am

An Internet Protocol address is used in conjunction with an Internet Service Provider router to direct network traffic. Basically it’s an internet service provider technology that uniquely identifies a computer or device on the Internet. This is similar to physical address uniquely identifies a place in the real world. Devices hooked directly up to the Internet need global IP addresses. Also, a router hooked up can take information given to it and further distribute it to local IP addresses like an apartment building can have multiple local addresses for its one street address. IP addresses are always of the form xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where ‘x’ can range from 0-9.

Server Delivery Rate

Tag: Informationeditor @ 8:40 am

An ISP can still be slow serving web pages, e-mail, or other data even if an ISP has plenty of bandwidth because its load and latency affects the delivery rate. The reason is that each ISP service is handled by a separate program called a daemon and these individual daemons can get overloaded. Each daemon can only handle so many requests per second regardless of bandwidth. Basically in addition to the ISP’s global load, there’s also individual service load. The number of requests an ISP service can handle per second is based primarily on its server software.

Pop Ups

Tag: Informationeditor @ 9:55 am

Pop up protection software is integrated to the IP’s software to keep you safe from unwanted and intrusive advertisement as you surf the net. This is valuable because not only that you could stay away from virus that may be hiding behind these pop-ups, but also it saves you time and irritation. If your ISP service doesn’t offer pop up control software, you can install it for free at Google. Download the Google Tool Bar and install it on you IE browser: this will control pop ups and enable you to search using Google or use an online dictionary.

Http Proxies

Tag: Informationeditor @ 8:43 am

HTTP proxies are used to disguise the online identity of internet users by hiding their IP (Internet Protocol) address. Any computer or device that logs on to the Internet has a unique number assigned to it. This allows accurate communication and identification. Thieves that prey on unsuspecting Internet users are known to use this address to track the user’s browsing habits and gain critical information that may enable them to steal the user’s identity. Also, employers use the IP addresses of company computers, along with other methods, to track employees’ Internet habits while at work. There is a constant debate over a right to an individual’s privacy, but the law will typically side with the employer on the issue.

Spam Filters

Tag: Informationeditor @ 9:54 am

Spam Filters are programs that protect your computer from unwanted e-mail advertisements. Over the past few years, email spam filters have upgraded. One of the best filters is ISP provider MSN’s Junk E-mail Guard which catches about 80-90% of spam and saves it to a Junk Mail folder. If you have a spam filter, check the Junk Mail folder regularly to see if something you don’t consider junk mail ends up in the wrong folder. Once found, you can program the Junk E-mail Guard to recognize that as good mail and place it into your Inbox.
