The world is being overtaken by the true wireless revolution with more and more people turning to wireless technology for their internet needs. We have 3G, WiFi and Wimax among some of the spreading technologies and everybody seems to love the concept of being wired constantly, for work or play. The advent of the social network further expanded the need for such wireless networks and add to that the proliferation of smart-phones and ultra-portables, they connect to the internet anywhere there is a wireless hotspot. People who rely heavily on the internet for their income and social needs even get hold of wireless hotspot detectors that tells them if there is a strong enough signal to connect and go on with their activities. ISP’s and True Connection Speeds
There is a much debated fact that ISP’s are not really publishing the true figures as to their real connection speeds and other details of their internet service. mainly for security reasons, it does have a profound effect on the overall performance of your desktop and its relationship to the rest of the internet when it comes to network intensive tasks such as gaming and other functions such as business related mashup apps. Internet Filtering – Bad Idea
The world has heard of the process as with many countries who want to control their people with respect to information and other deemed to be potentially harmful sites, site blocking on the ISP level. many countries all over the world have tried to control it yet the advent of 3G data packet technology has rendered many of these measures useless and quite ineffective. There was a time when everybody could get any form of information from just about anything on the web. Security concerns prompted the installation of firewalls and other intrusion prevention systems that blocks unwanted users from getting into sites such as those of the FBI and other secure government sites. Governments have them yet even these million-dollar computer security systems are sometimes baffled by malware that evolves like the rest of the internet. Internet access for rural America campaign launched
WISPA, or the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association is campaigning in the Congress to push legislation that will allow for more Americans to receive internet access.

Many Americans, especially those in rural and far flung areas, do not enjoy connection to the internet simply because it costs a lot to bring access to these areas. WISPA is gunning for federal support in terms of fund assistance to small ISPs with a good track record, who will be given grants to expand their service providing to these areas.
The group believes that access to the web will also usher in new opportunities for these areas, so that they can grow and enjoy a better economy. Public services and utilities are also expected to be enhanced by the installation of internet service.

ISP Reliability
There are several ISP providers in most of the world’s countries that share or provide internet service to the rest of the world and your choice of ISP can make or break your ability to connect to internet fast and securely. Most ISP’s have their own infrastructure in place and are mostly telephone service providers in the case of ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line is the cheapest and most common connection available to most of the wired world. Most do not know that this form of DSL connection uses copper wires as opposed to the highly publicized fiber optic cables of developed countries due to the cost factor.

ISP assists in the battle against music piracy

RIAA has seen the light and finally admitted that they can’t sue everyone uploads music online. So they change tactics and ask for assistance from ISPs. They want ISPs to police their clients and users regarding uploading such files in the internet:
Under the new plan, copyright owners will send infringement notices to ISPs, who will in turn notify their users — and possibly sanction them if they don’t respond to numerous messages.
Although pending litigation will continue, the recording industry agreed to stop new lawsuits after working with Andrew Cuomo, New York’s attorney general, and unidentified ISPs throughout the fall. Under the new plan, copyright owners will send infringement notices to ISPs, who will in turn notify their users — and possibly sanction them if they don’t respond to numerous messages.

Torrents Strike Back

Vuze formerly known as Azureus is the first torrent client to launch a counter attack against internet service providers that drop and forge data packets sent by the users. It is starting to become the Torrent Wars of 2008. The counter measure to be used is a plugin for the Azureus torrent client, called the Network Status Monitor. What it does is, every 10 minutes, the plugin will check the number of reset TCP connections within your computer system. The plugin will show the results to its users. If for instance you unchecked the Share Results box, it will send the collected data to Vuze’s website. Which will disclose the errant isp, that interferes with their client’s internet traffic.
